Guided Imagery SampleAn extremely useful method of right brain relaxation is guided imagery. This can be started even before children can talk and used throughout the school years. I've used guided imagery with children by playing soft music and asking them to close their eyes, and I close mine. I take them on a trip to their favorite forest where they can smell the flowers one by one, hear the birds, and touch the grass. I ask the children to pretend they are eating their favorite ice cream, tasting lemon juice, or patting a pony. You can take them on a journey that gratifies all the senses—right in your classroom! Children's imaginations are extremely fertile and they love to pretend. This fantasy play is essential to allow their minds to develop. A daily guided imagery session can expand your child's right brain hemisphere, increase your child's self-esteem, and result in improved scholastics—without specifically focusing on schoolwork. It could also make your life more fun and relaxing! |
