Response Activity

Author: Read the piece aloud using a voice that's loud enough so just your group can hear you clearly.

Responders: Respectfully listen while the author reads the piece.

• Silently read along using the copy the author gave you,
• Underline things that catch your attention,
• Highlight what you'd like to ask the author later,
• Think of the "Scoring Criteria" for this writing,
• Save your questions until the author has finished reading aloud,
• Take turns giving feedback to the author.

• Make notes on your copy of what they say,
• Ask responders to repeat something you don't understand,
• Try NOT to respond in the small group (but later when you revise),

• Review your copy of the author's piece for your next comment.
